I have always been a fast talker, but lately I have noticed that I am studdering a lot, like getting stuck on words. How can I slow down, speak clearer and be better at conversations?

I've ran into this situation before- my friends had suggested that they record me, so that they can I can listen to myself talk, and then be able to hear what I need to work on.

You realize that when you talk slower and clearer, YOU might think it's too slow, but to the other person, it's a normal speed. But most importantly, when you're working on your speech, don't worry about the other person- you should be doing this for yourself. I think being able to have good speech comes from being confident in what you say.

I always tried to teach my children to talk slowly and clearly. As they became teens, they started talking back at me, like a game- they would answer me in a speech pattern that was similar to a slow person. I got the hint that they were learning to slow down when they spoke. I am thankful that now they speak clearly so people can understand them. I use the same technique on my grandchildren.
Every time you open your mouth to speak, start out by pronouncing every letter- every sound. Practice at home, or in front of your mirror. You will find it really works. It's sort of like learning your basic phonics from school all over again.
