Yes, the wonderful question which everybody can say 'rap is crap' without any intelligent points behind it. It seems most of you people base your opinion of rap by whats on the radio & frankly it's not good. Most young people who buy music dont know anything about music, hence that's why you have garbage out that's popular. Groups like The Roots, Common, Kanye West, Talib Kwali, Mos Def, The Procussions, & even Dr. Dre & Dj Quik have live instruments & create their own music & dont sample. Some rap is music, some is not, bottom line. You just have to search & not make general statements like most people do on here.

If rap song is analyzed and positioned to be no longer something more advantageous than speaking with a musical accompaniment (no authentic attempt at making a music or harmonizing) then i imagine that it truly has roots in human beings song. Woody Guthrie did a music called "labor" wher he describes attempting to electrify a woman by technique of proving he's "no stranger to labor" Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's eating position" and "The bike music", except for some strings of chorus might want to be seen "RAP" to the in basic terms enlightened.

I've wondered that for years. Pressing a few buttons to make electronic sounds is not music. They don't even sing they just talk at a fast pace. I can do that too. Basically, no, I don't qualify it as music.

rap is noise and bunch of unbearable racket for me, not music. but the answer to your question... no i really don't think rap is music, just a people saying a bunch of words really fast.

It is technically "music" .... but its awful.
Its most deffinatly not singing.... its just pure crap.... no melody and the so called "beats" ... are usually stolen and if not...its the same stupid 4 sec bass "beat" over and over..nothing else....well theres usually some moron saying a bunch of swear words and degrading women .. but thats it
And in respnse to someone who said " then why is it on the radio" , its on the radio becasue its popular...most teens are brainwashed into listening to that crap.. just becasue everyone else does....

no, rap has rhythm and beats also. although it sounds as if they are talking, it really is music. the beats are just awsome. hey i consider music anything u can possibly dance to...be it opera, where ballerina dancer dance to or club dancing to rap.
