It depends on how formal the wedding is. If it is black tie you should wear something like this.
Gold is really hot right now.

First of all, find something that you feel comfortable in! And there's nothing wrong with black especially for a winter wedding. I agree with the no white, although a lot of friends have worn white to weddings but not head to toe and didnt look out of place at all. Remember not all brides wear white now!! Have 2 weddings soon and i'm wearing a dress from oasis (crysanthemum) with a little gold cardie and hopefully some non-tacky gold shoes if i can find them!
Enjoy the party!

Wear a colour & style to suit yurself. Try to find out how formal the wedding will be. It will be cold in Jan, so remember to include a pashmina/shrug/jacket. Don't wear white, as has already been said. If you are really unsure about what to wear consult a perosnal shopper or stylist for advice. Don't forget accessories & jewellery. Have a great day.

Hi! I was at a wedding last weekend and I wore a beige linen jacket with brown trousers, but I felt a bit under dressed! One of the girls I know who was there wore black trousers with a black strapless top which was beaded on the front with flat black shoes, because she's tall. She looked really nice. To go with it I would wear a lightweight jacket that toned in with the beads. Another look which I like is a dress with matching or toning jacket. I like berry colours if they suit your skintone. don't go for a black, navy or grey jacket, especially not pinstripe, as that looks like you've come straight from work. Have a good look around, as you have plenty of time. Try things on in a shop, then get someone to take a photo on their phone-it's a good way of seeing what you look like! Have fun!

If your in a cold climate a long coat is a must , in a nice warm colour with some accessories , hat , neck scarf / fur collar, gloves and bag , and you could wear a nice dress underneath , also in a warm tone's and a dressy shoe not sandal's . if your climate is warm then go with a dress or matching two piece , if you had stated what you expect the weather to be it would have been easier to help you . black / white /ivory is out, definitely out , i would pick from the rest , and would wear whatever i liked then .Enjoy your day out .

The time of day the wedding will take place will dictate the appropriate attire. What is certain is that you should absolutely not wear white or any shade resembling white. Odds are a semi-formal dress will be appropriate in a darker color.

Winter weddings are beautiful.
Do not wear White or any shade of White. No Winter White, no Cream, no Ivory. And no Black!
Wear a dress or a skirt and pretty sweater. And enjoy yourself :-)

anything color except for white. some people are iffy about black too at weddings. mothers of the bride and groom generally tend to wear blue or some shade of pink
i would go with red, grey, green or a nice periwinkle

Ask the bride what colour scheme she is having and compliment it, but if it's January, it may be ruddy cold, and you should take more care about the colour of your coat!
P.S. I think you'll be the best looking there too, so can I have best answer ;-)
