You don't know. All you can do is try your very best. I had my first child at a young age and I still to this day hope that I am doing it right. And yes, I do make mistakes, but that is how we learn. All I know is that I love my children and would sacrafice my life for them - and I hope that makes me a good enough parent.

How they interact with children from their family and ones that they never met before, how short their attention span is with the children, if their patience is tested tremendously when with those kids, and their genuine feelings about kids - do they really like them or can they do without them? Then of course its always different when its your own kids...but I think that if a person doesn't have any patience with other peoples' kids, their patience will be tried greatly with their own as well. Hope this helped!
Oh and by the way, if you're worried about whether or not you're going to be a good parent, chances are that you will be because you care enough about it to worry! :)

A child changes your life so completely that you really cant say for sure until you become a parent yourself. I've seen some pretty h@rdass people turn into the most wonderfully attentive parents that you will ever find and some "nice" people turn out to be HORRIBLE at it.

Be around other peoples kids, your nieces or nephews, or your friends kids. Maybe you can volunteer to take them out for a day. Did you ever take care of a younger brother or sister?
If you are curious about being around kids, you can even volunteer for Big Brothers.
I am middle aged but I babysit for a couple across the street sometimes.
I think anyone wondering about being a parent should try to be around kids of any age.
sometimes it is difficult but think of all the fun things you get to do. Watch cartoons, and my favorite, Color. There is something so satisfying about coloring with a three year old.

I wouldn't know I don't have kids, but I think that a good parent is someone who cares about more then just themselves, because children would come before anything else, and a good parent would do what they could to make sure their children were taken care of.

If you like children, have a lot of patience and aren't selfish. Kids take up lots of your time, are very needy and DO need to be put before yourself. If you can accept that, then you more than likely will be a good parent.

I think sometimes people know when they *wouldn't* make a good parent. Some might know that they would, but I for one was amazed at how much harder it was than I expected.

if you know your a good person that thinks ahead and takes other peoples feelings and concerns into account, then you will probably be a good parent.
people that can think of others needs before their own usually are good people and parents.
just don't forget to take time for yourself on occasion. lol.

I think it takes the desire to be a good parent; to want to give your child/ren things you wish you had but never did as a child; to have a strong sense of family; to want to pass on to them all the great things that you do have; have a great sense of morals and beliefs and the requisite selflessness.
