I belong to freecycle in my town. If you don;t know what that is its a place that you can give your unwanted stuff away for free. Anyways someone is offering bottles and nipples on freecycle, I personally think that is gross, that you should buy ones that ONLY your baby will use, am I being nit picky or do you guys agree?

It would depend on the condition of the bottles and nipples. If someone did decide they were in good shape they would need to boil them to sterilize before using them. They should also replace the nipples at least. It is the same as using non-disposable glasses in a restaurant, people have used them many, many times before. I, personally, would not do this, but then not everyone has the luxury of new things.

If the nipples are still in bubble wrap or original container. The bottles can be washed...You only need a number of bottles like a half a dozen or so...I would buy the nipples...You could be an ultra clean freak and only use disposable bottles which are slightly more expensive for the liners...Its your preference and money and attitude and storage and...My daughter does not like used clothes for her kids. Kids go through clothes either through playing, staining while eating, growing...oh well. I wish we had freecycle around our place in a way...

Actually, there is nothing wrong with using used bottles and nipples. I think that its great that someone is giving them away, there are needy families out there that can't afford to buy brand new products.

If you boil the nipples and bottles in hot water on the stove for 15 minutes they are then sterilized. Which means there is no bacteria and no germs whatsoever and will then be considered brand new for your baby.

I would use the bottles not the nipples. Personally the bottle is plastic and can be washed, but the nipples, I would not reuse. But if I went to get them and they were like in a trashy part of town I wouldn't take them at all.

I would think used bottles would be fine because you can sterilize them in boiling water but i wouldnt use the used nipples. I would buy new nipples to put on the bottles. The nipples harbor bacteria and they get worn quite easily.

I don't even use the same bottles for each of my babies. They are all chewed up and spit on. There is only so many times that you can clean them. I think that is gross. But, I guess that there are people out there with no help and no money so this might be something that they have to do.

Sterilize if you decide to use someone's used nipples. When you sterilize, you kill all bacteria.
(Place items in boiling water for 30 seconds to 2 minutes and remove immediately after the allotted time.)

It shouldn't be a problem to use used nipples.

From a stranger, yes, I agree unless it was in it's original packaging. Even then it would have to be sealed. Babies are so susceptible to infections, why risk it?

On the other hand, I asked my sister in law if she wanted bottles and nipples that my baby didn't like. She took them, but I'm not sure what she did with them. At least she knew who they were coming from and that it was ok to use them, if she decided to.

That is true it is kinda gross if you don't know the person, but for sure don't reuse the nipples but the bottles if they are in good shape just boil them in water and buy new nipples for them.

this is advantageous to positioned away the Medela bottles and use them back, alongside with each and every of the elements except the nipples. i might want to purchase new nipples, because the textile can replace over the years, and degrade.
