Obviously, people in the military use them constantly. I am referring to non miltary folks.

I use a lot, as I am retired Army, and I work in Civil Service at a military hospital. But, lots of times, I'll use military terms out of context, such as:
ASAP
POV [privately owned vehicle]
hand-carry
authorized access
macht schnell [make it quick in German]
ka-ji-wa [give it to me in Korean]
hoo-ah [this term has a myriad of meanings]
gotcha covered
GI [govt issue]
chain of command
military time [i.e. 1300 hrs = 1 pm]
the list goes on...

carry on, ma'am

I would say that I don't use them but being former military and from a military family I think it is in my blood.

Just last week I was accused by my supervisor that I use FAR to many acronyms when I am doing something. After taking a look at my computer set-up, my meeting notes and calendar, I would have to agree. If one were not familiar with the way the military does things, one wouldn't be able to find anything on my computer or in the file system.

**
Still refer to:

Human Resources as CPO
My car as a PoV
out of office meetings are TDY
Time in "hundred" hours
rest room is the "head" (does anyone know where that came from?)

Not to mention that my entire file system is set up exactly like a military file system (both paper AND electronic)

I still look for COLA on my pay report

Occasionally, I still say I am going to the BX or the Commissary
My resume is loaded with KSA's
The legal department is the JAG
When I move - is the new location CONUS or not?

Man, there are probably many many more, but they are so entrenched in my life I could only point them out if I were using them.

I was a military brat, so I grew up using more military terms than the average kid. And my spouse is ex-military, so those terms crop up from time to time around the house.

I live the life, so I use them constantly. I don't know any other way. (Before someone says it, I'm NOT brainwashed.) It's just easier and seems to make sense.

I couldn't even begin to list the terms I/we use. I just love this life!!

Way more than I should. I'm trying to exchange them for gardening terms.
