Firstly John Lennon was in a band called The Quarrymen.
After the rest of the Beatles had met, they called themselves 'The Silver Beetles.
They dropped the 'silver' and substituted the double 'ee' for an 'a' , thus The Beatles.
Of course 'Beat' within the name of the Beat/les refers to the rhythm of the music.
Therefore I consider their name to have more than just a reference to the name of an insect.
Remember many contemporary bands' names of the Sixties and since have owed a nod to various insects.
Examples are Buddy Hollies 'Crickets' The Hornets, Adam and the Ants, Daddy Longlegs, McFly, Spiders from Mars. The Grasshoppers etc.
