Vicodin is NOT like heroin....but, like any drug, if you go bat **** and eat 5 when you should be taking one, Vicodin can be abused. But it's not like crack or something like that, where you could be hooked after one or two times....just take as directed, and if you can use Tylenol, Aleve, or something else to kill the pain, then do that. Your son is over-reacting....unless you have an addictive personality/weakness (i.e. have you had past drug problems?)

Vicodin is prescribed by a lot of doctors for a lot of different reasons. I have an endless supply of a high-dose of the stuff as I'm a chronic migraine sufferer. Where someone else will take Ibuprofin or Acetaminophen , I take Vicodin. Taken correctly and as prescribed by your doctor, it's not addictive. Taken any other way and it can be. It's the hydrocodone in it that's the killer.
I found this on drugs.com - the first line under "What is the most important information I should know about Vicodin?"
• Hydrocodone is habit forming. It is possible become physically and/or psychologically dependent on the medication.
Do yourself a favour - take your medication as directed and you'll be just fine and pain free. Good luck!

Vicodin is a good pain reliever but, it can be very addictive. My girlfriend got hooked on it after she had some back problems. Bad news, very bad news. It was a real struggle getting her off of those. Vicodin is in the opiate family so, morphine and heroine are in the same family. Everyone knows that Heroin is very addictive. I would say if you have gone this far without the Vicodin I would stay off of it. Ask your Doc. for Tylenol 3. This is Tylenol with Codeine in it. It is a little stronger than your over the counter stuff but with out the addictive qualities of Vicodin.

Who's the one in Pain? oh thats right its you not your son , If your doctor prescribe it there is a reason, Your doc will monitor how long it will take you to heal and become pain free. Im sure he/she has experience with these types of injuries. A doc wont prescribe more pain medication without justification. So if you are concerned about becoming co dependent on the vicodin , then take it at night before bed and when you wake take only a half. this should keep you pain free with out feeling doped up.oh ya tell your son when he gets his medical license then he can determine your pain level , and what prescription you should take. Im sure he had your best intrest at heart , but he's simply not qualified to make that decision.
