A rotary hammer drill is larger in size then a hammer drill.
Typically it will accept bits with 3/4 and 1" shanks.

The rotary hammer drill (also known as roto hammer drill or masonry drill) is an electric drill type dedicated to drilling holes in masonry. The rotary hammer drill is a percussion drill that uses a weight to create the impact force on the masonry bit. Generally, the drill chuck of the rotary hammer drill is designed to hold SDS drill bits. Some styles of this drill are intended for masonry drilling only and the hammer action cannot be disengaged. Other styles allow the drill to be used without the hammer action for normal drilling.
The hammer drill is similar to a standard electric drill, with the exception that it is provided with a hammer action for drilling masonry. The hammer action may be engaged or disengaged as required.

Rotary hammers also pound the drill bit in and out while it is spinning. In this hammer drills piston mechanism is used instead of special clutch. So they deliver a much more powerful hammer blow, making it possible to drill bigger holes much faster. These are also called as combi drills.
Rotary Hammer Drill has a rotary part which has more circular motion, that result in more powerfull drill or to bore larger holes into a masonary or concrete surface. Whereas regular drill is usually used on relatively softer material like light duty concrete or masonary.

Yes, a rotary hammer drill revolves like a regular drill while it hammers, but a regular hammer drill hammers much like a mini jack-hammer. For the rotary hammer drill you need special bits that are made for masonry.
