The most famous example of that was when Hayden Fry (IOWA) wouldn't let his players do the town before their Rose Bowl. He wouldn't let them go to Disneyland, etc. If it were a national title bowl, maybe I'd understand but if it's not a title game, let them party! I'm very sure all the coaches who will be playing in the minor bowl will be cool and let that happen since there's no BCS title at stake.

If it's the Weedeater(minor) Bowl, let them go out! The school got their money anyway, win or lose.I'm not saying the night before the game. They arrive in the bowl city about a week before so there's time to go out. If it's the BCS Title game, different story.

No. A coach shouldnt have to tell his players not to go out on the town, they should be responsible enough to realize they shouldnt go out anyway.

No I think the coach is doing the right thing by not letting them go out and party. They are there to represent the school. There should be structured activities for them to do for entertainment but just to turn a bunch of 19-21 year olds lose and then expect to win the bowl game would be ridiculous.

I disagree with you completely. These players are getting a free education in return for providing their absolute best performances on the football field. The minute the game is over they have about eight months before their next game and get to paint the town all they want to. Every bowl is extremely important to the school, the team, the fans and the finances of the football program. If players can't stay in one night and prepare themselves to play football, they shouldn't be on the team.

I agree with Hayden Fry, actually. The main purpose of the whole trip is for the players to play football, not to meet Mickey Mouse and/or get liquored up. If one player gets in any sort of trouble, the team gets investigated and it makes the coach look really bad. That's why coaches put the kabosh on partying.

I'm sure He viewed it as too much of a distraction and wanted his team ready to play and concentrate on the game. I'm sure the Other team's coach would do the same and not let them see the sites of IOWA. I'm not busting on IOWA, Plenty of Cornfeilds to plow-under and turn into a practice feild. "If you Build it...He will come."

I'm guessing you never played even high school sports. The coach sets the rules. If you want to play for him, you do what he says. Period.
