Actually, he's in better physical condition then most men half his age. But, he's also spoken about the fact that Indy 4 will take place much later than the first three films, to reflect the fact that he's older now.

Harrison Ford is loved by so many people as Indiana Jones. It doesn't really matter if he's physically fit or not - he's who we want to see in the role.

Who cares?? Harrison Ford rules. Even when he's bad he's good. I'm just so happy they're making an Indy 4 movie, I wouldn't care if he had to be wheeled around in a hospital bed w/ an IV tube.
It almost NEVER works out when they replace main characters in sequels, w/ the rare exception of James Bond, obviously.
If Ford says he's up for it, he's up for it! That's why we have big budgets & stunt doubles, anyway. :)
