The "real" reason is the celebration of Samhain the old pagan sabbat when the veil between our world and the spirit world gets thin.

What you see to day has little or nothing to do with the actual Samhain,, but I still celebrate it anyway. Then a quiet, more personal Samhain celebration around the 1st of November,, when Samhain actually occurs.

I love the fact that during 1 night of the year you can let your inhibitions go,, and be someone or something else for a little while it is a very liberating and harmless holiday.

I LOVE HALLOWEEN.

I dont celebrate but it started out a long time ago as the day they thought spirits were released it was celebrated Nov 1 and the spirits were supposed to be evil and people worshipped them and they would do tricks and go door to door demanding tricks for the dead but it was a celebration for the devil and later devil worshippers kept up the tradition and started doing it on the eve Oct 31 and in the newspaper clipping they said that they love it when everyday people celebrate the holiday because they really dont know what they are celebrating they think its innocent but its not the orignal holiday is called hallo something I cant remember the name

Once again we celebrate the yearly night where the vail between the lands of the living and the dead is at its’ thinnest. Summer passes into Winter and we hope that the work we have done in the last six months will see us through to the dawning of spring. We remember the friends and family that we lost in the last year and invite them to share with us in the forms that they can take or none at all.

We leverage the thin vail and ask for prognostication’s from powers beyond. We seek knowledge and pray for good tidings. We dance, we indulge, and sacrifice all in thanksgiving and return some of our bounty in that thanks.

We protect ourselves from the malign spirits by spreading sweet offerings to the edge of our town, leaving treats so the evil ones will not play tricks on us.

Masks and garb are adorn in honor of the spirits of the animals we have taken, the people who have passed, the one we fear and the ones we respect.

Halloween, All Hallows Eve, So-wen. We as humans have a deep need for this celebration and no matter how hard the powers that be want to eliminate it, we have always celebrated it. It does seem to be part of our natures.

I celebrate Samhain to mark the end of harvest, the end of the year and the beginning of the new one. I feast to and celebrate the memories of loved ones that have passed on. It is a wonderful celebration full of love and laughter, dancing and good times with friends and family. It is my favorite Sabbat.

I also celebrate Halloween with friends and love seeing all the kiddos out dressed in their costumes. I love to decorate the house and give out goodies. All around it's just a fun holiday.

My family and I choose not to celebrate. We stand firm on "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." [Romans 12:2]Should we as Christians then borrow pagan customs and "Christian-ize" them? "Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil." [1 Thessalonians 5:21-22]; "And, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." [Ephesians 5:11] If you read the Bible in any detail you will also see that Halloween practices in essence were what defiled nations [Leviticus 18:24-30]. The Israelites were also warned [Deuteronomy 18:9]. And many years ago C.S. Lewis wrote that one of Satan's most deceptive tactics is to convince people that he doesn't exist. Apparently, it seems, he has done a good job in his deception. Many, sadly, think the devil is no more a symbol of evil, but rather is like Santa Claus, just a fictional character. As for me and my house, we choose to follow the Word.

It's all about the candy dude....

It's supposedly the eve of All Hallows Day, but I'm not sure the significance or origin of that... I just have always enjoyed a chance to party...
