i have read that word in books, but what does it actually mean?

It means spending the night with someone (just for sex) and then not contacting them again. As opposed to forming a relationship with someone.

a single night stand is when a man picks up a woman,(or vice versa) knows nothing about her/him and decides to have sex with that person. Once the night is over, and it will be the next day, there is no "future" in the relationship. The contact between these 2 partners is forbidden. All that person wanted was a night of sex that is all. Usually for these people that want these relationships, they forgot the meaning of sex and when to have it.

I'm a gal so if a man has sex with me one night and never calls or comes back to me that would be a one night stand. Hence the word one in one night stand.

easy, means you know some, get to bed that same day with him/her, and never get together again
