Pure acetone normally works well. It cuts through most adhesives well, including super glue and Liquid Nails.

You can buy it at Home Depot or Lowe's. Should be with the paint removers/turpentine products.

The stuff is exceptionally difficult to get off of anything. Usually the only thing that will work is to use sand paper and switch to a super fine sand paper before you risk scratching the surface of the tile. Be armed with lots of patience too. Good luck.

By the way, there is a product that was available for removing tile adhesive, but I'm not sure it is still on the market because it was known for removing the finish of the tile along with the adhesive. Needless to say this stuff is highly corrosive, so wear proper protective gloves if you do happen to find it in a store near you.

Saturate the adhesive with dish soap and hot water. Use a soaked towel to cover the adhesive and hold on there for approximately 20-30 minutes.

Then try wiping it up with the towel. If it doesn't come off easily, work it vigorously with the towel or a rag.

Check the side of the adhesive container - it should give you the proper cleaning procedures for that type of tile adhesive.

Are you sure it's adhesive and not thin set cement? For adhesive you can use acetone or " goo gone" which is easier on the hands and not flammable. If it's thinset and has been there for awhile you have problems. You might try white vinegar for the cement.

For the adhesive WD-40 works too.
