Those in power today would tell that the challenges of freedom is maintaining safety in a dangerous world of terrorism and drugs. The reality is that crime has always been higher and there has always been more danger in living in a free society.It is always safer to live under other less free forms of government where people are tortured or killed without due process. It truly is a great deterrent to crime. But our forefather chose this dangerous way of life and many felt it better to die than to live under these other forms of government. many of our forefathers came to this country to escape oppression and these types of governments. Patrick Henry's quote expressed the feelings of our forefathers when he said " Give me liberty or give me death " I'm not sure how we honer the deaths of those brave individuals who died for our freedom when we cheaply surrender our liberties in pursuit of safety.
