Are you talking about the hat, Beret? Or, as you mentioned, the Hair Accessory...the Barrette?

A Barrette is just a hair clip, that usually opens up and has a 'hinge' on one end and a 'clasp' or it clasps at the other end, to hold your hair. You can find them in a variety of designs from plain, to very ornamental. Usually they are plastic or metal. You can purchase them at most stores, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and beauty supply stores. Put the word 'hair barrette' into your computer's search engine and you will find tons of them! Good luck and have fun!

A Beret (the 't' is silent)...is a French Inspired hat/cap (picture the Artist with the 'slouchy' hat positioned on the side of his head), that you can find in any major clothing department store. For example, Macy's, Target, etc. Many colors, fabrics, and designs to choose from.

A barrett is a metal clasp that is usually between 1 and 3 inches long. Take a 6in piece of flat metal and fold it in half, then take a small portion of one end and fold it towards the middle in the form of a flat hook so that the second straight end could fit behind the short hook. This would create the barret and not allow any hair to call out of it. Usually one flat side would have a piece of plastic that was tinted to the color of hair or had some design or bright color on it. They were also worn in pairs on each side of the head.

Google Barrett and you will find more than enough images and places to buy to explain.

Barrettes come in all different shapes and sizes. For a visual picture try the website below. Hair slide would probably fall more under the category of a hair pick.
