If you want the better team to win the series more often, then the series length should be increased.
Baseball offers a 162-game regular season schedule that allows for the best teams to win their respective divisions, and to get playoff spots. After that, though, they throw them into short series that allow the factor of chance to play a huge role. That's why it's not at all surprising to see "upsets" like the Tigers and Cards beating the Yankees and Padres this season, as the better team over the long haul isn't guaranteed any such success in a short series.
If you want unpredicatability maximized, though, I'd say keep the 5-game series. I don't like them, but I admit that they can provide lots of excitement and upsets.

Current baseball commissioner Bud Selig said recently in public that such a change would not happen any time in the near future. There are concerns about pushing the playoffs into November -- something Major League Baseball would like to avoid.
However, my personal view is that increasing the length of the first round of the playoffs to seven games would be more fair to the teams involved. It is not at all unusual to see teams that are down 3 games to 2 in a seven game series come back and win 4 games to 3. Why should teams be put at a disadvantage in the first round?
It would also increase revenue for Major League Baseball and for the individual teams. Put simply, more games means more people spending money on tickets, parking, and concessions at the game (in addition to additional television revenue). This seems like a winning situation for everyone involved.

The only reason that the ALCS and the NLCS are 7 games and there are Division Series is so baseball can make more money. So no I don't agree.
