It seems that we remain a minstrel show for others as well as ourselves. ILike the only way we feel we can be noticed is to put on a show. Constantly performing, always a joke. When will we break this cycle on a community level? Any ideas?

I speak for myself as a part of my people and my community. Although I do not practice the same lifestyle, I still identify with the black community. We lack a communal presence within the global community. Seperating ourselves from one another based on views and lifestyle choices is why I believe we are in this position today. Understanding and community effort is key.

Make sure you watch the video. It's sad, but true.

Last comment...I apologize for the language and content of the video in advance. It speaks truth regardless.

I just wanted to clarify the video. If you're able to listen to what the young man is saying beyond the obvious profanity and unsettling images (i found it very difficult to do) then you will hear a true message which speaks about the individuals who have come before us and laid a solid foundation only to have us systematically destroy it with our willingness to assimilate and perpetuate certain stereotypes. Before he says the line, 'Ya'll should all be lynched" he speak about specific people. Before he show the pictures he speaks about them. The Oprah picture came after he made a comment about black women who parade themselves around shamelessly. He said they should be ashamed, Oprah broke her back so you can act like this. I apologize for the length, I truly would suggest that you review the video and try to listen beyond what immediately touches your ears. It is potent truth.

Thanks again for your answer.

Shilom,

Jai :)

We don't stand up for ourselves. We are willing to complain about any injustice, but most of the time, we're unwilling to ACT. That video was weird. What was the point, it showed some negative aspects of our culture and them it showed some good like images of Oprah and college graduates....

Ech, and that comment "y'all should all get lynched"! Do they mean every Black person. not Every Black Person is ghetto and likes hip-hop. Its a stupid comment for a stupid video. That video should never be played.
