What breast pump have you found to be the quickest, works the best, cost effective, etc. breast pump? I am pregnant and would like to register for a pump, but don't know which one would be the best. I have read all the different reviews off the babies sites, but still unsure. I would like your opinion on battery or ac/dc run units. Thanks so much for your help!

It depends on why you want a pump.
For a stay at home mom who will only want to pump occasionally, I'd suggest the Avent Isis.
For a working mother, I'd suggest the Medela Pump In Style.
For a mom who will be exclusively pumping, I'd suggest a Medela rental pump like the Lactina.

Medela is the best brand. They have some that are small and easy to carry for when you go back to work. I would definitely get the one with two attachments to do both at the same time.

I rented a Medela pump from the hospital. For the amount that I paid to rent them for a total of about 8 months, I could have bought one. I didn't think I was going to have a second child.

For travel, or a quick one to take with you, I used the Avent manual pump. Works great for quick trips where you just need to relieve the pressure.

My sister gave me an Evenflo electric breast pump. I used it for awhile and never thought it did a whole lot. Then for some reason it started short circuiting. We ended up returning it to the company, they sent us a humidifier in return. I bought a Gerber hand pump. It worked so well! The funnel had a massaging action that was great for coaxing all the milk out. It came apart easily and was completely dishwasher safe. It might have taken a little longer than an electric pump, but I felt the results were worth it. Also it was very quiet, I could pump in bed to ease engorgement without waking my husband.

I use the Lactina, a rental from the hospital. It's $40.00 a month, but it's worth it. I've used the battery powered Pump in Style (with my second child), but it did not effectively empty my breasts, and it took forever (time I didn't have - I'm a teacher) and it broke within the first year. I can pump in about 10 minutes with the Lactina. It's definitely not as pretty, though. The pump in style comes in a cute black bag, and the lactina comes in a plastic blue ugly box with a handle. But it's worth it for me.

I prefer a manual pump over an automated pump. They seem to have a better suction and allow you to pump much more quickly. They are also easier to clean.

Well the good ones are the more expensive ones, but it really is worth it especially if you are planning on having more children later on. Also, you could buy it now, use it, and resell it to someone you know or maybe even on eBay and get part of your money back.
