I honestly have no idea it boggles the mind. My previous employer had multi-millions, his grand children have trust funds in the range of 20 to 30 million each.

Yet that nut got up early every morning and went to work trying to figure out how we could make more millions. I think he liked being in the club of successful business owners. I've been in the room when he called the other big shots, no names mentioned here lets say they would be recognized. I think he got a kick out of that.

My current boss is very young, only around 40 and he also is very well off. Yet he is the hardest working person in the company. I don't get it. I require the mortage and grocery bills to motivate me to get into to work. Without that motivation I don't think I'd make it in. He is generally either in the office or at a customers location by the time I make it in. He could assign all the projects to me but insist on handling some his self which of course allows us to do more.

I think at some point the money just becomes a way of keeping score and they want to be the winner. I don't get it.

Seems like most of your answers agree on 'greed'!!
Not a very nice thing to say is it?? I don't suppose anyone out there would be 'jealous' would they??
I suppose a million dollars seems a lot, it is unless you work it out logically!
If you had a million dollar win on say the lotto tomorrow, you would no doubt blow a few grand straight away?
But let us assume you didn't blow any away and invested it all!
1 million giving you an interest return of say 4.5%, which you would pay taxes on. So you will have a yearly income of $45k!
Around £25k!
Do you really think that is a lot of money??? £480 a week pick up (if you are lucky)!! You could just about get by on that if you were living in London UK.
So this is why I strive for more, I feel I need 10 million to live in comfort, I don't know if I will make it , another 6million to go yet and I'm 28 years old already, still I must push on, time is money as they say!
Just remember 'jealousy' is a very nasty thing, no need for it!!
A lot of people are unhappy about my Pop leaving me a couple of million, see what I mean about jealousy?

Do they? I dont know many people with millions in the bank actually. I imagine the ones who "only concern themselves with making more" might have self-esteem thats closely related to their productiveness...probably what earned them those millions to start with. IMO many celebrities feel guiltly about their wealth which is why they team up with charities so often.

Because human wants are unlimited. No matter how much money you have, there will always be something you want which you can't afford. This is proved by the fact that a high percentage of lottery winners continue playing the lottery - they say "another million would do just fine".

Ever heard of "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil?"

Greed is ugly. I suppose there are those who use their money for good things like Bill Gates and his wife are pouring money into the education system. Not all people who have millions are only concerned about making more.

Greed is a powerfull sin.
The more of something you have the more you desire it. Also probably has something to do with the 'keeping up with the Jones's' effect...

No matter how much you've got, someone's always going to have more. Plus the more money you have the more you can do, and say and get away with...

Money is power, and power is attractive, no matter who you are.

Fear of been poor again I guess, so wish they would get a life and splash some of it doing the things they would love to instead of sitting at home been miserable with all their money in the bank.

Two reasons

(1) nothing succeeds like success, but more to the point

(2) cause and effect are switched in your question. My granny only concerns herself with getting the weeds out of her garden. Consequently, there are no weeds in her garden. If you habitually concentrate your attentions on something, it's more likely to get dealt with than if you don't.

One of the oldest reasons in the world. Greed with maybe a dash of ego and a hint of power hungry.....

They need something to get themselves up in the morning - and if they measure success in pecuniary terms, more money means more success.
