Go for it. At least it's not a Honda or Toyota.

It would take quite a bit of money and effort to tune that engine to 200hp - it isn't something that just an intake and exhaust can get you. You're looking at new cams, lightweight pulleys, and a turbo...
If you really like everything else about the car then you should do what makes you happy but I just don't think it would be worth it. Even once you mod the engine, the car won't have the suspension aggressive enough for you to really get the most out of the car....and you'd probably want better brakes....the list goes on.
In the end, a strong engine alone doesn't define the car's performance. That car just wasn't designed to make good use of 200 hp.
Get an Acura RSX Type-S. I love mine :)

Stupid!!! I owned the same car for 5 months and had nothing but problems that aren't uncommon. Transmission lags/slips, power windows failed, cheap interior, gutless motor on the freeway, and driver seat stopped reclinging. The worst though was when I had been driving and then stopped at a shopping center. Somehow during the drive the power locks failed, which lock automatically when driving. I was literally locked in my own car! The door would not open manually from the outside or inside. I climbed in/out of the passenger side for 2 weeks. It ended up being a fuse problem. The one fuse that Ford put behind the fuse box! Had to pull the whole dash apart to fix then fuse blew immediatly after I got door open. I went straight to the VW dealer and got a new jetta. Stick with an import. Look at the new Honda Fits. Good looking car and new for 13,000. 40MPG.

I think the Ford Focus is a great car to have. I purchased a ZX5 in July. I absolutely love it! The best car I've ever owned and it really costs nothing to fill up the tank. $30 give or take a few $.

In addition to checking the pulleys, the PVC elbow (the 90 degree piece of rubber on top of the PVC valve) had a tendency to deteriorate due to age and heat. When they develop a small hole, it acts like a reed valve, emitting a high pitched squeal at certain vacuum levels. It kind of sounds like a balloon that a young boy is letting the air out of at parties to annoy the adults.

I think that's a good idea--the Ford Focus is an ideal stock car to upgrade.

well, if you really want to go fast with a four clylinder, i recomend a professionally installed nitrous system unless you really know the car well and can do it yourself. 100hp for around $500, can't be beat. best of all, won't cost you any fuel enconomy
