Since your dream is to travel to Greece I will turn you onto a very nice Greek site with loads of radio stations from all over Greece with streaming music.

I have been to all the islands of Greece an of course Athens.

My very favorite place in Greece is a island called, "Santoreni", sits high up on a hill over looking the ocean. You can get to the top via a lift or via donkey. Of course when you get up to this small island there is really not much to do other then drink good Greek wine and if you love jewelry especially gold and silver they have some of the most unique shops in Greece.

All of the islands of Greece a very clean and you can find peace of mind.

Athens is known for traffic jams that match the worst of any city and smog that parallels other major urban areas. (The pollutions is dark brown and you can cut it with a knife).

But, putting that aside, the overall experience in Athens covers more elvels of culture than any other place in Greece. the gits of the gods are what make Athens speical in Greek history.

The goddness Athena gave the city an olive tree as a token of her protection of the city and the god dionyssos gave the vine tree. These, along with many myths and traditions have been proven by findings during excavations.

In the city of Athens there is much to be seen, including:

The Greek Parliment, located in Syntagma Square, the neoclassical building used to be Othon's Residence.

The unknown Sholder Monument located by the Greek Parliment, the guards are dressed in the traditional uniform of "Tsolias".

National Garden, located beside the Parliment House, it contains many centuries old trees and plants.

Panathinaikon Stadium, where the first modern Olympics took place in 1896.

Plaka, the oldest and more picturesque part of Athens, streching around Acropolis, featuring narrow streets and alleys, neo-classical villas, taverns and tourist shops.

Monastiraki-next to Plaka is it is known for its traditional flea market where antiquaries and handcrfaft items can be found. though prices are reasonable in the flea market, it is suggested that you bargain, which will result in an even better price.

Museums

Several outstsanding museums can be found throughout the city. Among the more famous are:

The Akropolis Museum, contians finds from the Akropolis and features the "Ramping Horseman" and "Panatheanic Procession".

The Agora Museum, finds from the Agora, along with a collection of pottery and theballot box known as the "Kkeriteruib".

The Benaki Museum, offers a view of Athens from the rooftop cafe and features a collectionhighlighting the "Grek War of Independence and Greek costumes.

The Byzantine Museum, the large home of the 19th century Duchess de Plaisance, the exhibition sets forth the development of church architecture in Greece.

The folk rt Museum, a collection of custumes and items of daily life.

the Kanellopoulos Collection, located ion a neoclassical house, it contains a collection from one family covering Greek art from Neolithic to modern times.

The Museum of the Kerameikos, a collection of ancient poterry, along with the funeral stole from the "Kerameikos Cemetery.

There are many more museums that I can not think of their name of what they have.

A trip to Athens would not be complete without a visit to one of the many archaeological sites in the area. Undoubtedly the most famous and the "must see", is the Arcropolis. The Acropolis has been in continous use by Athens' residents, as a religious center from the Mycenaean era until the end of the Byzantione period. The site is referred to by Athenians as the "Holy Rock".

Getting arond Athens can be a real problem as most city streets are clogged with traffice 24 hours per day. Most of Athens taxicab dirvers are honest and wil offer a reasonable rate, which is regulated. Most of the drivers are familiar with the streets and even though they take what appears to be the longer route, it is usually the quicker way to get from one place.

Again I will tell you that if you have sinus or algeries, take good care of yourself, because in my own personal opinion, Athens is a city that is in my opinion so dirty there really are no words to describe how bad the air is. (You feel like you are going to have an instant sore throat). Plus your eyes burn.

Hope that your dream of going to Greece becomes a reality.

If you have the money, go via a cruise ship from Europe as this is the very best way to see all the islands of Greece an ofcourse Athens. (The ships have great secured guided tours).

I asked a man who had been in the Merchant Marine for years what was the most beautiful place in the world. Without even having to think about it, he said Greece.
