What a tough question. Both were excellent dancers and brought things to the world of dance that no one else ever could, but if I had to pick one I would have to pick Fred Astire. Something about him especially when dancing would grap at you and not let go. He could entrance you with his steps and keep you with his smile. He seemed above all others and yet approachable at the same time. He had a style and a finesse all his own and could make even the worst of partners look good. His imagination kept him inventive and fresh and helped show us things we may never have even thought of.

Fred Astaire. He was a great tap dancer and also a great partner. Dancing is not just about individual success, you need to be able to work with a partner. He was a great partner with Ginger Rogers.

You're comparing apples and oranges. They were both brilliant, with different styles. Astaire was the suave sophisticate, Kelly the energetic free spirit. Most people have a favorite, but in terms of talent, they were evenly matched.

Fred Astaire by far. He had such a huge variety of dance steps, plus the ability to act while dancing.

They both were the best. I don't think one was better than the other.
Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did - backwards!

Gene would have answered Fred, and Fred would have answered Gene. When Frank Sinatra was asked who his favorite singer was, he replied: Tony Bennett. What a compliment.
And your name, Miss Golightly, reveals you to be a true romantic and lover of things that were so great.

Hmmm...a classic question. Both men embody the elegance and strength of dance in their era. Personally, I lean towards Gene Kelly because I believe he brought a "real man" edge to his performance that took dance to a more accessable level for most of us.
Both, however, stand up to the test of time as choreographic and performing geniuses.
