It really varies on what you consider, and what factors you take into account. It is unfortunate that politics permeates every factor and every question in our lives. Intelligence wise, we do have a mulititude of Nobel Prizes, and we are the home of numerous scientific masterminds. Considering we were a nation founded by what was considered the "cultural refuse" and "undesireables" by the world, we are doing very well for ourselves. What makes this country what it is, is a desire to improve one's status and situation. Which is very difficult to do anywhere else in the world. Why do you think millions enter this country every year, through legal and less than legal means, because this nation holds promise and potential. My family came here with nothing except talent for opera and making beer. Prohibition prevented the growth of our beer industry but we were able to go into other fields and grow and prosper. This nation lends itself to variety and diversity. It draws some of its greatest strengths from it, but also lends it weaknesses. But, I believe, for us to of attained what we have attained in 230 years what it took others hundreds and even thousands of years stands as a testament to the intelligence of the american people.

America is certainly one of the most arrogant nations in the world and is one of the only boistrously arrogant nations that actually has the power and sway to get what it wants. But since you said intellegence and not arrogance, no, we are not the wisest and most intellegent people on Earth. People are all just about as wise and intellegent everywhere on Earth, the only real factor that keeps an uneven playing field is money and education, and you could argue that it is just money.

You must be joking.
How do you measure intelligence? How do you measure wisdom?
Who are representative of the people being measured, the Government? Presently in the USA that's another joke.
Why are Americans so obsessed with being the best country in the world, having the best health-care systems, being the most scenic, being the best whatever? I have lived for more than 1 year in more than 10 countires before becoming resident here these past 20 years.
I have also visited, for more than a week, at least 20 other countries.
This type of conversation doesn't exist in any country I have visited.
Most of my friends here believe that the USA is the "best" country in the world, and they are disappointed that I can name at least 10 countires where I would be just as happy, or happier to live in, including France.

I don't know where to start...should I laugh , cry... heck I am almost afraid to read responses to this question. I will say that the most intelligent and wisest people on this earth are scattered through our entire planet and It takes all of them collectively in constant motion to keep the rest on this earth from self destruction.

Not in terms of politics with other countries.

But, the people themselves are some of the nicest people around, but every country has their share of good and bad people, so I wouldn't say we hold the record on that.

Defining intelligent and wisest is probably a matter of personal opinion (everything, politics, socially etc).

Not to be a sarcastic @ss, but you spelt 'intelligent' wrong ;)

Certainly not..

Americans are the one big.. ...

Let me give you an example. Americans spent a million dollars to create a pen that would write while they went on space trips.. for the ink in the pen would come out because of zero gravity.

But at the same time Russians.. were using pencils.. instead.. which the americans later discovered. what a pity..

No Americans aren't the most intelligent & wisest ppl on earth.

We're just great at taking care of our own poop --- My philosopy from visiting places like Greece, Italy, Spain, Phillipeans, & Mexico ... is that the society which controlls their poop the best has the most stable social & economic enviroment.

Every place I have visited is proud of their ancient civilizations plumbing. The ruins of these places has stuff like toilets, plumbing, sewars, and other means to clean up poop.

Taking care of poop means less disease, better drinking water, longer lives. So learn to take care of your own "Sh" --- "It" and prosper.

Thought provoking question for sure. Unlike most answers I read I would have to say yes. We, I am American, have done more in less time than any other civilization before us. Period. Will this continue? It is unlikely. I believe that all nations need to learn to drop our individualism if we are going to survive at all. That is also unlikely. Humans, while determined, are also frail. It would not take much to destroy ourselves if nature does not beat us to it.

I don't think there is any way to fairly answer that question. I would like to think that America does produce some very intelligent people though as a whole we may not be the smartest people in the world.

of course not!!
America is a nation that people created.. I don't know who is the wisest nation on earth but I am sure it would be a nation which created itself on the basis of survival and nourishment, not a nation that bases itself on making other people fight and destroy eachother so that it remains the superpower of the world!!
