I want info or directions to a website or book on how to make a simple medieval gown. I have no previous knowledge of sewing and I don't own a sewing machine but want to give it a go. Please can anyone help?

Patten companies actually make patterns you can buy in fabric stores that contain the kind of dress you're talking about. You can cut the pieces out and sew them together by hand, or look for someone in your circle of friends who has and sewing machine and would help you. Good luck.
