damp means when you can smell the presence of water in something, moist is when you can feel the persence of water if you touch the object and wet means you can even strain water from the object.

I think fabrics and other material that can soak up water, like hair, are called damp. Moist can mean soft, like a cake, or it is used to describe weather. Wet is used for anything.
wet clothes- damp
muggyweather- moist
freshly washed hair- damp
a soft cupcake- moist

I call, things (a shirt),
1. Dripping wet.(If a shirt. You need to wring it out or let it drip and dry, going thought other two phases).
2. Molding damp.(If a shirt. Just right so that mold can grow, need more drying before use).
3. Just moist.(If a shirt. You can ware it or let it get dry before storing).
I hope you understood, the deference in amount of water shirt is holding.

that's a toughy wet equals fully wet... damp is halfway dry and moist is still just a little wet.
