What do you think is going on now? It will (is) be like a wet dream for the faithful. All those Christian boys going off to the desert and killing for Jesus. Kind of makes your trousers tight dosent it?

We are in a religious based war right now, although I would hardly call it holy. An extreme group, rather large in fact, have declared jihad on the western world and anyone within there own religion who do not agree with them. This war started over a thousand years ago with the crusaders quest for the Holy Lands. The wrong people with the wrong agenda got involved on the crusaders side and an unquenched anger and mistrust was born into the unforgetting population of the Holy Lands. That war was stopped when the crusaders were driven out of the Holy Lands. The war was never settled, though, and was started again in recent history.

What do I think it will be like? It will be like you see now. I believe this is only the beginning of this restarted war. The jihadists are in a position of nothing to loose, which makes them very dangerous to not only to the rest of the world, but also to their own selves. This war is not a war of stopping an army, or a country. It is a war of stopping a way of thinking (religion and philosophy), ours against theirs.
We, of course, will win. Our religions (which includes the more liberal form of theirs) and philosophys are open minded and encourage free thought. Theirs are closed minded and any thought other than what is preached is met with death. By nature, all humans resist constriction in body and mind, which is why they resort to terrorism and brutality to enforce their methods of rule and so-called religion. Eventually, they will die out or be killed. In the mean time, we are forced to fight in their war. If we do not fight, we will be killed and reduced in numbers so that we may eventually die out. Not a good thought, huh? And far from holy.

Why must men fight over differences in opinion? Becuase our books differ? Becuase we were raised to believe in different principles? When does the death of another lend credibility to ones beliefs? I cannot conceive of a religion that accords harm unto others. But this seems to be a sad reality. So now what? More war? More terrorism? Where does the madness end? How many people must die, flee their homes, suffer attocities while governments and religions clash. How many families will be torn apart while nations fight to control fossil fuel supplies? This is akin to gradeschool on a global scale. This IS what is it like. Stop the chaos.

If we define "holy war" as a war declared in order to extend or defend a religion then those have been going on since times immemorial, even Buddhists who are generally known as a peace loving bunch have initiated some - see http://www.berzinarchives.com/kalachakra/holy_war_buddhism_islam_shambhala_long.html
What is it like? Like any other war - bloody, ugly, and nothing holy about it at all.

Yes. We will have a holy war, but not against whom you think. We are on the brink of World War III according to many people. According to the bible in the 24th chapter of Matthew we read Jesus' account of the end of days. He states that there will be wars and rumors of wars. We read later on through the new testament that a man of lawlessness shall rise to power. He will seat himself in the church of God and proclaim that he is God. He will make war with the saints (any whom are in Christ during the tribulation) and overcome them. He will think that he has won a might victory. Then Jesus will come back at the end of his reign and he shall make war with him. Jesus shall overcome him and all those who stand behind him. Then the Lord shall raise the dead and take all those in him to Heaven to live with him in paradise forever. Those with the Anti-Christ shall be in a place where there shall be pain and suffering forever. So to answer you question in short yes but it will be between spiritual powers just as the apostle Paul said.

I don't understand the concept of a holy war. I think the jihadist will eventually just burn themselves out the way evil always does. I just hope it is soon because they really disgust me. Its like there are a lot of really mentally ill people running around advocating insanity.

The words "holy war" constitute an oxymoron.

What would a religious war be like? Unholy.

I don't think we will ever NOT have a holy war...although no war is holy per se, but I can't imagine people not waring because they believe their religion is better than the other or that another religion is wrong in it's beleifs.

Its already started!!

Extreme-ist Muslims are attacking us 'infidels' world-wide!
Just because we might not call it a holy war from our side--don't think that they see it the same way!
