I hope not, as you may of guessed I'm patriotic and proud to sing the national anthem and proud to be British.
I think in our ever changing social climate, patriotism is dumbed-down and not overtly encouraged just in case it upsets ethnic minorities. There's a very fine line between patriotism and racism. However you still can be a proud British citizen without hating or resenting the ethnic communities. We live in an increasing multi-cultural society so I also strongly believe that our national identity should remain, after all it's only a song.

I hope not! Most people are patriotic and like to feel that they 'belong' to the country to which they owe allegiance. The national anthem, together with the flag, can invoke that feeling of pride and belonging. When the medals are presented at the Olympics, for instance, those receiving them are proud to stand on the podium and feel stirred when they hear their anthem. Without the anthem, I feel sure that although they would have the personal glory, it would lack that special something.
