In a time when political issues are very important the young people are not voting. I am 32 and most people I talk to my age do not vote WHY?

Because nobody's told them the Big Rule: If you don't vote, you don't get to gripe about the results of the election, or the way things are run afterward. NObody wants to hear it from someone who didn't even try to make a difference.

Also, some people don't vote because they still think that would get them onto the jury-duty rolls. What they don't know is that most states now use driver's license records for that pool.

First, you are no longer the newer generation. Take it from a Gen X'er, we are now old news. The reason most younger people don't vote, is because they see the BS and realize, as long as an Electoral College exists, our votes MEAN NOTHING. The only way an electoral college is a good idea, is if ALL STATES has a law stating that the Representatives MUST VOTE according to whomever won their state's election tallies. Maybe half of states have such a law. Secondly, a lot of GEN X'ers voted in 2000, yet watched as the law, the USG and all the rich, wealthy elitists usurped our vote and gave the Presidency to the man with the least amount of votes? While I always vote, even if I must cast a protest vote (signing up, showing up, preparing the machine/lever and NOT choosing anyone). It not only has the chance to MUCK up the voting tally, but it is symbolic of my hatred of the dual party system,. which essentially gives us a choice between the lesser of two evils. Silly me, I'd think we'd prefer two geniuses to battle for Presidency....but you retards prefer the democraps or repukelicans....until we put a REAL AMERICAN into office, we'll continue this downward spiral we call the American Way of Life.

I'll start by saying I am 30 with many friends that don't vote. Primary reason: they don't believe it matters and unfortunately even though I vote, I agree with them. I throw away my ballot in the hope that one day, 3rd party won't be looked at as a sure loser. But, young people today have had to endure an endless stream of BS advertising their whole lives so of course they are gonna tune out when you give them a BS decision between a Republican that is going to sell you out and a Democrat that is going to sell you out.

There lazy self absorbed ME generation who think voting is beneath them and a waste of time. They all need a good slap side the head to wake them up that the political decisions of today will affect them tomorrow. Unfortunately they will do nothing except whine that the world is so unfair when todays decisions start to hit there lives more directly.

Probably due in part to the (re-count in Florida) Bush/Gore fiasco. If the popular majority vote doesn't count then what's the point in voting -attitude. I think the younger generation of Americans are seriously disenchanted with our political system. Can you blame them? However, it is extremely important now more than ever that we vote. You're to be commended for caring about this issue. Please encourage your non-voting friends to go to polls.

The polls are not on the way to The Olive Garden and Pier 1.

Who has time to vote when there is a never ending pasta bowl and a sale on scented candles?

Because they don't mind that older people are spending their money.

The reason politicians can get away with running big deficits is that the people who should be objecting the most, the young, vote in such small numbers. If you want to fix it, make it hurt them when they do it. Senior citizens know what is what, they vote, and they get what they want.

Because younger people don't care- they don't think they need to listen, they think politics are boring/politicians don't listen, and they thoroughly believe their vote doesn't count.

The 18-30 block of voters is *always* the lowest in elections. Imagine what would happen if we started voting more- they would have to listen to us, and start taking some of our concerns to heart (like better funding for college).

Apathy and laziness. Many young folks simply don't care, believing we're about to blow ourselves up anyway, so why bother? Also, it's work to study the issues and candidates and then go out and vote, and many of them would rather sit in front of the tube with X-Box.

because we're all lazy. If we could vote online most of us would do it. I voted for president last time and waited in line for 4 hours. Its just our generation I guess. Our parents made some lazy children
