You need to use what is called an ethernet router to split the connection between the two or more computers. If it is wireless, then your computer needs a wireless card installed or built in. If it is wired, then you just need an ethernet card to plug in to, something that all computer come standard with today.
If you call your broadband company, they will help you with everything you need.

your best bet is to use a wireless router, they don't cost THAT much and it means you can easily connect to the internet anywhere in your house. you will also need to buy a wireless receiver for your computer so that you can receive the signal. most routers have easy to follow instructions or you can contact your internet provider and they will give you the settings.
the router plugs into your phone line instead of the modem supplied by your isp (internet service provider)
then you can either hard wire (use a cable) to connect up to 4 computers or use the wireless function to send the internet all round your house. the router acts as a gateway to the internet allowing you to use the internet at the same time as another computer on your 'network' if you need anymore help just ask.
that is if your living at home. if you live in uni halls then most have the internet available ask your flat mates or at your faculty.

Well you say you are using broadband so all you need is a router which will allow you to have from 4 to 8 computers on one broadband connection. I would get one that has a firewall and all you need on the new pc is a ethernet card.

It depends on your isp: eg AOL wont support Internet Connection Sharing, so you need to enquire from your isp if they support it. I f they dont you need to buy a router or modem router. If internet sharing is supported you need a network card in each computer and crossover cable between both computers. If your running windows xp click start, settings, control panel, go to network connections, when network connections is opened look at network tasks on left hand side, and select set up (home or small office network) follow the on screen instructions. Have floppy disc handy.

You can connect all the computers through a local area network and take one Internet connection. Then that connection can be accessed by all computers.I can give you a link that deals with the internet connection Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. You can build an ad hoc network without a router!!
Put a wi fi card in each of your computers and, as long as your bedroom one is on and connected to the internet the second will be able to access it through the first.

All you need to do is network the two computers by an ethernet cable or a firewire. Then you right click on you broadband connection icon in the All Connections window and choose share. All you have to do is share the connection and disable your firewall settings for the second computer.
Should work if you do everything properly.
Good luck!

you need to hook up a wireless router to your existing broadband network, then get a computer that has built in wireless (they all pretty much do today). Your existing computer will cable to the router instead of directly to the broadband. Nothing else special is needed. Easy!
