Can anyone please inform me of camcorders that are Macintosh compatible? I've been researching and so far the only ones I have looked at are only compatible with Windows. A website that lists the camcorders that are compatible would be great! Thanks for your help.

Camcorders and digital cameras seldom display Mac OS compatability. The reason being that the compatability is usally in reference to some drivers of software included with the camera. In the case of an Apple you will not use any of this software. The trick is to know what software you are using. iMovie (the ilife including program) or FinalCut.

I will assume you are using iMovie. I have a few links to help you out

For general device compatability information from Apple's site
http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/devices.html

Straight from Apple's site on camcorder compatability "Most digital video camcorders that use a FireWire (IEEE 1394) or USB 2.0 connection — including the latest consumer HDV camcorders — and many AV Adapters work with Mac OS X. Please check with the manufacturer of your device to find out about specific Mac compatibility. On this page, you’ll find links to leading device manufacturers."

I know that that does not help much but I can tell you from personal experience just about any namebrand median range camcorder works fine. I personally have used several different Sony, Canon, and JVC cameras. Just be sure to get one with the FireWire (IEEE 1394) or USB 2.0 connection and you should be golden.

If you want to be really safe either order one from the Apple Store online, all devices offered from apple work on apple computers. Alternatively, you could always find the same camera offered from the Apple store at a local location if you wnat to shop for deals. Also the Apple Retail Stores are a good option. To find one near you check here.
