MTV was built on videos. Now I hear videos aren't played there anymore. They are still played on country network. Are they played on VH1? Are they still a big deal in the music world?

The music is too good these days for the music world or what what is left of the music world...if one exhists. MTV went from showcasing music to showcasing how rich the musicians are. So the musicians sing about how much money they have and then MTV shows it to the rest of the world and thats about it. Real music got lost in there somewhere. I say we should download songs like nobodies business and creat the music industry to collaps on itself. Then the only ones left behind will be the true musicians. Then let them make mone the old fashioned way...by performing and entertaining...not by making a dumb music videos and showing off your bently.

People are gonna hate me for saying this because everyone hates this band for some reason, but oh well, **** em all. Aiden. Their music is great, but they have god-awful. horrible, badly made, crappy music videos EVERY time. I don't watch them anymore for fear it will ruin the songs. I saw the One Love music video and I can't listen to that song anymore without imagining a freaky bodybuilder spinning around a little goth girl for no reason. It was BAD. BQ: Right now War All the Time by Thursday. They were among the first bands to really take a stand and make a statement about issues like 9-11 and MTV banned the video for being too controversial, but Thursday didn't care, they didn't change it. I really respect them for having the guts to make that statement and speak their opinions even when it wasn't so easily accepted.

Yes.

They are a big deal, I dont watch mtv, mtv base, vh1, the box, or any other of the endless lists of music channels... but loads of kids (those who actually buy music) do.

no only are music channels an incredibly effective marketing tool, but they pigeon hole or enhance a performers career. invariably you will assosiate vision with certain song and thus it greatly affects the sucess of a performer.

for example Britney Spears will be remembered for her appearance in a skimpy school costume and thus you are likley to think of that when you hear here songs or, even seeing a school girl might trigger you to remeber she has a new song out.

ultimetly its free advertising and it offers high paced tv that requires no concerntration, so people will always flick on those channels (if they have them) the channel pays nothing in production costs and the musician pockets the money

VH1 has videos sometimes, but it's earlier in the day. Like, early afternoon. Oh and on Fridays they have the top 20 countdown. But they don't even show the whole video half the time. Mostly people are getting videos on iTunes now. And you can see them for free on Yahoo music. But those take forever to load sometimes.

I miss videos, theres a channel on my cable network that plays older stuff (my kinda music) it classic VH1.
But yeah MTV and VH1 play nothing but reality TV now, CMT still plays a little bit of videos but I don't watch them, not that much anyways.

Mtv still plays music videos, and so does vh1 but they only play them at wierd hours, like early in the morning, and late at night.
if you have sattelite, fuse is an awesome channel to watch videos

people dont really watch mtv like they used to because all they have are those silly Real World, and Road Rules reality shows playing. People are disgusted by all of the shows because MTV was built on music and videos, as you stated beforehand. Shows like that pertain nothing to the music.

I think the music world sucks now, so I wouldn't be surprised if these stations don't play too much of the videos.
