in the us, there is pre credential course work that you take for being a history teacher. i love history. i started out as as a history major and was talked into changing to social science. they assured me it was practically the same, but it is not. i prefer ancient/medieval world history, social science focuses on US history, which i was not especially thrilled about. the other difference is it has government, geography and economics thrown in so you can teach all levels, 7-12 grades. i was not thrilled with social science, but i did enjoy the government aspect. after your bachelors, you apply to the credential program. that can take 2-3 semesters, then you have a credential. each state has different requirements in the history you have to take to teach. but what the heck, i packed it in and went for special ed!!
history majors are excellent researchers and writers. have fun and good luck!

First decide what you want to teach. There is criteria for each subject and each grade. So if you want to teach elementary school kids math you need to have taken certain subjects in college to qualify to teach that subject. Once you decide what & who you want to teach then you need to get your 4-year college degree and your teaching certificate, which takes about another 6 months to get. You can always take your freshman and sophmore college classes at a junior college in or near the town you live in to save money then go to a 4 year college to finish your degree. It's best to check with a school counselor about what colleges offer teaching certificates. It's also best to choose the 4-year college first. That way you will know what classes will transfer from the 2-year college to the 4-year college and you won't waste any of your time or money taking classes that won't transfer.

Do a degree at university for 3 years in history and then go on to do your PGCE in history, which is also done at university. I want to be a teacher and was finding it hard what to do but I found that speaking to my teacher of the subject that I want to teach was really helpful as they helped me find courses and told me all the options open to me, perhaps you should talk to your teacher if you are still at school!
