Is a person allowed to drive legally in South Africa with aGB driving licence.

You can use you UK licence in SA as long as it is the card type licence. Just remember that in SA you must have you driving licence on you AT ALL times. It is an offence if you are stopped and are unable to produce a valid driving licence.
