The first plant grew in my flowerbed this spring. It is a creeper of some sort and it took over my porch railing. The frost has killed it before the flowers were able to seed out.

The second plant is one I found growing against the side of my porch. It looked like some type of grass, but it had a stalk that grew up and flowered in a ball on the top. To see the pictures look at http://photos.yahoo.com/sunset_at_surf

Yahoo had a tantrum while I was loading the photos. Sorry. They are there now.

The first plant didn't get past our first frost. It started dying away by afternoon. It had 4 flowers on most of the tops and the one part that did start to grow some was sort of oval shaped and had spikey hairs on it. I thought it might be a gourd of some sort too, but I couldn't find any pictures of anything.

The second plant has planted itself in the grass near my side porch. It looks like a clump of grass with long thin leaves. The stalk grew up and it bloomed. It looks pretty.

I'm not absolutely sure on the first one, but I'm with 'Dragonmom', I think it's some sort of Cucumber, or Squash.

The second one is "Star of Bethlehem", it can be invasive. I'd watch it carefully, and if it starts getting out of hand, start spraying it with round-up or another strong herbicide.

As long as you don't allow the fruit of the other to drop, and thus drop seeds, you shouldn't be bothered by it again. The frost should kill it off completely.

Good luck-

Be helpful if the picture was there.......

Thank you for the pictures. The vine is some type of squash, gourd, or cucumber. Can't tell for sure. The other plant looks like Starflower. It grows from a bulb and will spread and choke out everything in your flowerbed. It does have pretty flowers on though.

The first one looks like wild cucumber. It will take over your yard and possibly strangle trees. I'm not for sure what the second one is.
