A walker is a good tool to use. You could also use a harness (like a leash) that you can hold and aid in their balancing. Has your baby shown signs of trying to walk? If so, it just takes a little time. Before you know it... they'll be up and running. If you haven't seen any signs, you can check with your doctor... who will most likely tell you that the baby is just not ready. Some children don't take their first steps until they are 15 months.
I provided mine with a walker and a Jumparoo when he was around 8 months old... so that he can feel the floor under his feet. He never crawled... and around 11 months just got up and started walking. I think the walker did help him.

Fisher Price has a little toy that helps and encourages kids to walk. Everyone that I know has one of those little walking toys. I forget what the name is, but any of the toys that encourage walking are great.

Good Luck! I hope you've child proofed your house. Once you baby starts walking, they are going to get into EVERYTHING.

My daughter was a yr old when she started walking and she did it by herself.. We were at our neighbor's house and i sat her on the floor and was watching television and didn't really notice because usually when i would put her down all she did was crawl.. babies will walk and talk on their own.. she doesn't walk anymore she runs everywhere.. and her speech has improved so much the more she talks.. Don't rush it.. It will happen all in time...

You don't "teach" them to walk, they learn by trying. What you can do is encouraging them. Unless there is a medical condition, it's just a matter of time, you can't really hurry them.

my little sister just turned 1 too ( yes i'm 14 years older than her :]] ) but she can move around and everything by herself when she holds on to stuff so what i do is get both of her hands and get behind her and walk as fast as i can to make her walk fast too. then i just gradually let go of her, one hand at a time. sometimes she gets to where she can walk a little by herself...it just takes time! good luck! :]]

I would first talk to your dr to make sure there is no developmental problem, then take a step back and relax -- kids do things when they're ready for them....I am posting a site to check out though for a really neat gadget that can help you walk with your kid... check it out!!!!

my little sister who is 11 months, she walks by herself she falls, instead of carrying her everywhere everybady just hold her hand, or stand her up and tell her to come on, and most of the times she follows, give lots of encouragement, when she walks by herself, we clap and smile, she gets excited and wants to walk byself more and more.

Some children take longer than others, don't worry. I have found the best thing to do is get a walker. They really help. PLEASE if you have stairs, be sure to put up a gate!!!!
