I have a used 1999 Jeep Cherokee and I am pretty sure my husband and I were jipped into this car. They knew this car would have problems.

It could be any number of things causing an oil leak. Best thing to do is clean the entire engine and see where it is coming from. Descibe it the best you can to me and i can help you from there.
What to look for are:
valve cover gasket leak
oil pressure switch
oil pan gasket leak
front oil seal
rear oil seal
oil filter pinhole or oil pan pinhole
drain plug gasket leaking
distributor seal leaks
any one or maybe more of these will be your problem, just describe where and what it looks like
good luck..........

It means you have an oil leak. It could be the engine, which includes gaskets, seals, the oil filter, the drain plug, the transmission, which could be the same list, the differential, which includes the same list. You have to be a little bit more specific in order to get an answer that means anything.

You just need to get under there and see where it's leaking from.
You know, they don't make all those used car salesmen jokes for nothing.

there is also a possibility of bolts coming loose. Try tightening the bolts on the engine.
