The series "Lost In Space" aired on CBS-TV in September of 1965 and lasted three seasons on the air until September of 1968. The series was produced by Irwin Allen. Irwin Allen at the time was also behind an array of adventure/fantasy and science
fiction shows which included "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea","Land Of The Giants",and "The Time Tunnel".

The first season of the episodes were in black and white(1965-66
season). Seasons two and three were in color(1966-68).
The series "Lost In Space" was based on another concept called
"Space Family Robinson",about the voyages of the all-American family which included Dr. John Robinson(Guy Williams),his wife
Maureen(June Lockhart),and the three children..oldest daughter
Judy(Marta Kristen),boy scientist Will Robinson(Billy Mumy),and
youngest daughter Penny(Veronica Cartwright). The rest included young pilot and commander of the ship and Judy's boyfriend,Major West(Mark Goddard),and the most unreliable character of them all,the uncanny and unexpected not to mention unpredictable Dr. Zachery Smith(Jonathan Harris). Not to mention the family-oriented crew of the robot that looks over them during their adventures into the unknown. All of the characters mention were always into something, charting unexplored and hostile worlds each week as they faced one cliffhanger after another in the unknown dangers that await them in the threshold of outer space aboard the Jupiter 2.

"Lost In Space",ran for three seasons on CBS-TV and after it went of the air....was made into a short-lived Saturday Morning cartoon featuring all the original cast from the show, and also a big screen version of this was made in 1998 too starring William Hurt and Mimi Rogers, and Gary Oldman. Their will be a sequel to this too.

I hope that answers your question.
