what shall be done to avoid the fabric spirality in cotton fabrics. specially i have seen this problem in Washing/Overdyeing garments. The garment seam would come to front side from left side & right side seam moves on the back side of the garment by one inch or more.
what are the precautions that shall be taken while washing/overdyeing garment to avoid such cases. what shall be done to avoid spirality in normal single jersey fabric (circular knitted fabric).
if someone knows... plz advise

Aha, I think I know what you're talking about. This happens because the seam part of the fabric tends to be a different tension than the rest of the fabric even just to start out with, never mind after washing. When you wash it, of course the difference between the two tensions really comes out, and this is when it's more suceptible to pulling away in an ever vaster different tension. A well made garment will have less of a chance of this happening because the tension of the seam if it's been sewn will match as closely as possible the tension of the knit itself. This is why it is more likely to happen to a machine sewn garment where the thread bears almost no resemblance to the thread of the fabric.

Just be careful not to really wring the fabric the way you would if it were a dish towel. Every twist can shift the tension in the wrong places. Be especially careful when twisting where the seams meet.

Good Luck.
