I want to buy an electric guitar for someone as a gift, but don't have a lot of money to spend. He has been playing the acoustic guitar for almost 10 years and really wants an electric. I don't want to get him something too cheap or too much for a beginner. Any suggestions on brands, etc...?

The Fender 'Squire' series is a good choice. You can get it with a small amp, and lots of accessories all in one package. Try: http://www.musiciansfriend.com

Fenders and Gibsons are great guitars, but they are fairly pricey. Luckily, they have cheaper lines that they put out, Fender makes Squier guitars, and Gibson- epiphones. I started with a Squier affinity, it is a good cheap-midrange guitar. It is better than the bullet line, but a bit cheaper than the standard. It is an all around good guitar for the money. I also like Fenders because they are easier to work on and modify. Epiphones are generally pricer than Squires, but still a good guitar. However, if you are starting, a guitar pack would probably be best. They usually come with an amp and a lead etc. or there is the option of buying a second hand guitar. Good luck guitar hunting, and learning to play

First of all, don't listen to anyone suggesting a squier. If you are short on money, a low range Ibanez or a Yamaha is a very good guitar for it's money. You won't get a good guitar with little money either way, but if you're short on money an Ibanez or a Yamaha is your best bet.

There's a Yamaha guitar, that costs $299.00. It's a good quality guitar, and plays out really good. If you don't have a store there that sells them, just do a on line search. If you go much cheaper than that, you're buying a beginners guitar.

Yeah i agree with bumblefast don't listen to anyone who recommends a squire, they are junk, there are plenty of guitars out there that won't break the bank but still sound good, Jackson, Ibanez, Washburn all make a decent low priced guitar

I suggest going to P Hill Auctions. They are an online seller of guitars, and they carry closeout Mirage guitars at an excellent price. I would probably avoid their Kona guitars though.

Just do a search for P Hill Auctions on Yahoo!

An ideal place to get good, and cheap guitars is ebay.

I would also recommend an Ibanez. They can be cheap, and they are nice for the price.
