I've put this under a politics catagory because I'm one of the many who feel uneasy about the was Hollywood acts, I'd have put it under 'pillaging' if there was a catagory for it.

Did hollywood take this as an American story? Might not be a bad idea!
And how did Cage compare to Woodward? (was it Woodward?)

Thought it was pretty lame, they changed it from a Satanic / pagan society into a Matriarchal / pagan society, lost a lot of the sinister feeling of the first one, Christopher Lee considers the original to be maybe his best role, the actress in the remake is just bland in comparison.
Cage is OK, Woodward slightly better, but the villains in the remake definitely let it down.

Absolutely no comparison! The whole charm of the old film was the celtic imagery, folklore etc - it may have been done on a budget, but it had a real atmosphere. Edward Woodward was the modern day virgin sacrifice - take away the imagery and Nicholas Cage as a disgruntled cop just doesn't cut the mustard! The old one is best! Don't waste your time on the new one!

I've only seen the original.

From the clips I've seen, the remake (unsurprisingly) looks really bad. It flopped didn't it?

I really do not know why they bothered to remake the Wicker Man -- and why did they Americanise it? Surely, American audiences would have liked to see a sinister movie based in some weird scottish isle full of pagans, especially if the hero was recast as an American....

... but the original flopped as well. It only gained cult status in Britain with the wiccans and other pagans....

...I thought the original was entertaining.

I saw the first 'Wicker Man' here in Europe, and went to see the latest in the USA.

It was pitiful. Money wasted.

It was NOT an American story and has been mongrelized beyond belief.

The US film industry has done nothing but 'cut and paste' for the past 2-3 years. Maybe some of these guys should go back to shoe sales.

There is no originality left in Follywood, and I am tired of paying good $$$ for shitteaux attempts at entertainment.

I have'nt seen the new one (did'nt even know there was one) although it does'nt surprise me in the least. There appears to be a trend of late cannot think of an original film script, Oh i know we'll do a remake.. I agree with you they should leave well alone, there was nothing wrong with the original Wicker Man. But do'nt forget America did win WWII singlehanded according to hollywood.

Why do they have to rehash old films. They are rarely as good as the originals and they spoil the memories of the first. Can't they find fresh story lines or are they too set in their ways. I prefer an original story preferably with very few "famous?" actors most of whom can't act and rely upon one good starring role which made them famous.

I never saw the original version but I thought this one sucked, it was by far one of the crappier films I have ever seen Nicolas Cage in

As with most remakes, i just don't bother going to see them, certainly I wouldn't pay good money to see them, as the originals are invariably much better. Why Americanise everything? It's like legal plagiarism and I for one won't be a party to it.

I've only seen the original. I guess the above posters think I should not waste my time on the new one.
