The 16-year-old is my son's girlfriend, she lives with us, she wants to get emancipated but they dont have the $$, her mother will not let me or my son take gaurdianship of her, so now they are talking marriage. I don't want them to do that but she can't seem to get her mother to let go. She left her mother's house because of abuse (mental and physical).

You should look up the civil code for marriage in Michigan and see what the law says.

If you have to come on line to get this information from strangers, you should reconsider if you're really ready to get married. Unless you're the parent of the 16 year-old in question, in which case I say "Oops!"

Yes. But to be rest assured look up the term "full faith and credit clause." It simply states that whatever you do in another state as pertaining to public records or valid acts other states must recognize it. It is your Constitutional right. Sweetie if you are that 16 year old and want to get married now take your time.
I am a 31 year old mother of four kids. I am almost finished a university and plan to go to law school upon graduation.
I never thought about school or my economical nor my long term goals. I never anticipated that problems could arise. But I was in your shoes at your age wanting to grow up fast. When everything happened for the worst I found myself stuck with three kids, no high school diploma, my knight and shining armor made a baby with someone else, no income because I relied on him and trusted him so much, no job, on government assistance and more.
Finally I went back to school and get my diploma which open the door for me to get a job not a career working at a factory with my mother and brother. It was a start. Well after 3 years of me working there and 25 years of the company being in business it shut down its operation. I decided to go to school and get a degree in legal assistant/paralegal. I never thought I could do it because I felt left behind and didn't believe in myself. But other people at the school and my mother showed me they believed in my self worth which empowered me. I received my associates degree in legal studies and am now on my way to get my bachelors' in Political Science. Next, with the help of God Law School is next on my agenda.
I had my first child at your age looking for love in all the wrong places. It did not work. That image of love forever at that tender age is only an image not reality. Wait please sweetie. People hearts and minds change especially at your age. It may not seem like it now but it will. There is so much for you to do right now before you make that big decision. Just you wait and see it will and can be more beautiful. I am finally getting on track but realize it could have been done before I made silly decisions.
Thanks for asking advice. Good Luck ;)

Please don't get married at 16. You need to date other men, go to school, experience life. Please reconsider this! Wait until you are 26.

Envision this: Married at 16, pregnant at 17, divorced at 18, Waiting tables and collecting food stamps at 19.

It could be like this: Stay in school at 16-18, go to college from 18-22, get a job and play the dating field from 22 on. Just imagine the fun and experince you will have.

If the guy you want to marry is truly the right one he will wiat for your life to unfold and mkae the right decisions. I assume he is young as well. All of the above applies to him to.

WELL DUH! I just read some of your other questions, apparently this is you son's girlfriend and not you. Others have answered. Plus I think her being a parent might change some of the decision making toher and not her parents.

So uh, well, good luck. Poor kids! They need family support, they both need to know how important it is for them to both finish school and try to go on to college. Which I am sure you have lectured to them already.

If you get married anywhere in the United States, your marriage is legal in every state. So if you get married in Texas and you move to California, you're still married. Just like if you get divorced in Missouri, you're still divorced in Georgia.
It is in the constitution.
There may still be issues with being a minor and needing a parent's signature.
