Chile has a narrow coastal plain and a very mountainous interior. The mountains are referred to as the Cordillera, which means "backbone" in English.

As for weather, Chile spans the range from cool temperate weather, such as you might have in Maine to warm tropical weather such as you might get on the Pacific coast of Mexico.

Landforms? Because it's in a place that straddles a huge desert and a major mountain range, ending with coast. Have you ever looked at a map of Chile? It extends from the equator (nearly) to the southern tip of South Africa: almost antarctic.
