A lion is indeed larger ( an adult male lion weighs in about 330-550 lbs, while a leopard weighs about 65-200 lbs), but in a comparison of pound for pound strength a leopard is much stronger. A leopard can climb a tree while carrying something in its jaws that weighs more than itself. A leopard is however, more of an opportunistic hunter than a lion. But then again, male lions are considered lazy; they allow the females to go out and hunt for them.

The Lion is the second largest big cat, where as the leopard comes in fourth. Leopards rely more on stealth than brute strength when hunting, and when encountering a larger cat, such as a lion, will often times retreat ( they are excellent climbers) than stand and fight.
Leopards do tend to show more aggressive behavior than lions, especially males. So it sounds like that is about right.

Lions are much bigger.
While the lion is lazy, the lioness is as ferocious as the leopard.Since lions are social animals their ferocity is not apparent.Being social, the lions can he tamed and trained easily.

I feel that is the case. Ever seen a leopard fight? I do not want to get involved with that!
