Here is a multiple choice...pick any one you like. The main thing, on a job interview, be truthful. No point saying things that are not true, because if you get the job, you have to live with it.

#1. To earn a living, so I can marry and raise kids, and provide everything they need.
#2. I want to meet people and work in a place with educated, friendly people.
#3. I want to find a cure for cancer, and this job will help.
#4. I want to be famous, and this job will help.
#5. I want to build something beautiful, and in this company I can be part of the team that does it.
#6. I want to immigrate, and I need a job here as part of my visa application.
#7. I want to learn more, and this job will be great training.
#8. This job is close to home, so I won't have to travel far to work, and still be near my family and friends.
#9. This job will give me an opportunity to travel on business, and i want to travel, especially in winter I want to go places like southern california or Florida.
#10. This job will help me meet cute ladies.

If the interviewer asks a question like this, answer the question, and then ask back, "Why do you want to hire me?". It is good to know why a company or business needs you, and what makes you qualified.

The answer I think the interview people are looking for is:
"I want to work here because this is the perfect job for a person with my education, experience, talents and training. I would fit here perfectly and the job would be easy and comfortable for me. I put in x years of university (or college, or highschool) and then x years in work experience, to get to this moment. I dreamed all that time of this job. This is the fulfillment of my dream, my purpose in life. I was created for this. I WANT this job. I can make this business fly."

Start with the truth - why do you want to work there? If it's just because you need a job then I would research the company and try to come up with some positive things to say. For example if you are a nurse and you want a job at xyz hospital you might say because the hospital has an excellent reputation for delivering quality care, or because the hospital utilizes state of the art equipment, etc

The right answer will include some combination of the following:

1 - The truth -- what makes you enthusiastic about the prospect of working at this place? (And while it may be true, "the thought of getting a regular paycheck gets me excited" is probably best left unsaid. :-)

2 - Something that will show your potential employer that you understand a unique feature of their business. Doing this will show them that you have thought about the company's products or services, culture, and market presence; it will show them that you are more than just somebody willing to stand behind a counter wearing a shirt with your name on it and ask, "Would you like fries with that?"

Good rule-of-thumb, always answer with reasons that will benefit the company, not you.

Good answers
- Want to use my experience to further YourCompanies objectives
- I enjoy so-and-so industry, and really feel my past experience will be beneficial here.

Bad answers
- I need some more $$ to pay my bills (So what happens when you become discontented with your salary here)

- I'm looking for a change in my career path (So how long after they hire you are you again going to have these feelings and quit?)

they are asking if you've looked up their site on the web. researched what they do and how they do it.
how much interest they put into their product or service and employees.
wondering if you can put together a comprehensive structured sentence involving their goals and stated business objectives and make them mesh with your own.

example.

I love the widgets you make and feel they are the best widgets ever made, the teamwork involved in this process assures me that my talents will become part of the family here and both the companies and my contributions will ensure a productive, safe, and efficient work environment.

its much better than saying dayum! you guys pay out the wazoo and i wanna cash in on it.
something to that effect.

think about why YOU want to work there?
You heard great things about the company, you respect their image ( brand...) You are interested in their mission statement, its your field. You can evern talk about the salary ( but not too much) its a reality of life and the interviewer knows it
