I'm 40 weeks, due Friday, with menstrual like cramping. Last Thursday and the Thursday before that the doctor told me that I was 2-3cm dilated, 80% effaced, and at -2 station. Any chance this baby is coming soon? I have cramping and backaches and can't sleep for more than 60 minute intervals. Help!

Sounds like you may be going into labor. With all of my kids, I had what felt like menstrual cramping with a LOT of backache. I would call the doctor if I was you. GOOD LUCK! :)

Sounds like you are losing your mucus plug. The cramping is your cervix starting to dilate. Im 39 weeks and having the same thing. As your cervix dilates the plug starts to come out. This usually means labor is really close! Good Luck!

I had horrible period cramps, before I went into labor. My water broke before getting any contractions, but those cramps were bad, so was the backache. I say your baby its on its way!

It does sound like labor...and instead of asking here, you need to call the labor and delivery department at your hospital and talk to a nurse. They can tell you everything you need to know and let you know the best time to come in.

Try to walk around if you can. It should help a little.

time the cramps....if you find they're regular...like 5 mins apart (tho some women aren't)...go to the obstetrics unit of your hospital and they'll assess you (hook up to the monitors).

i just had my baby 7 weeks ago....started feeling the cramps at about 12 am (probably 15 mins apart cuz i went back to sleep)....woke up at 1am....still feeling them....woke up at 2am...now 5 mins apart!!! called obstetrics...they said "oh you probably have a while to wait to come in"....as soon as i got off the phone they were about 2 mins apart (literally as soon as i got off the phone)...so i went in (the hospital is about 3 minutes from our house) and i was already 7 cm dilated! within the hour i was pushing!!!

so my advise to you is, if you feel like you're in labour, go get assessed...trust your insticts! what i didn't tell you about my story is that i FELT in my instincts i was in labour and needed to get to the hospital....so since i trusted my instincts to get my butt over there (rather than listen to the nurse's suggestion, i made it in time...ended up that i needed an emergency c-section after two hours of pushing!)

best of luck to you!!!
congrats!

Congrats, those are early contractions...since you've started dilating already I dont think it will be too long....I think your baby is gonna be born on your due date (luckily before). When they start getting stronger call your dr.
