Your best bet is to call the Department of labor for the State of Michigan and just ask.

first fine out what does the state of michigan consider for employment. because i live in florida. and in florida they are under the non-fault state. in simple terms, anyone can fired you, hired you, lay you off, change your hours without notifiying you and there is nothing you can do about it.
if i were you, i would see what your state website states about eomployment benefits and rules. then i would put a call into the labor department in your state. but be aware, your employer can see this as a threat to the company and fired you (which is also against the law, but my the time it is all said and done, you can still be without a job and broke).

No such thing.

If you have a family to support and aren't making enough money, do call the family independance agency. They can hook you up with food stamps and cash and medical insurance and help scout out for a better job, or if your a minority race, you can get free $$ state $$ dollars for a trade school to improve your education.
