Is there a database? I'm sure the school district would not give this information out.

The builing he worked in is now used for administrative purposes. This was a teacher from the late 70's in the Learning Center. This is actually for my husband who doens't like to use computers. Before people knew about Dyslexia, some knucklehead in the OK City school district told his mother she may as well take him home because "he will never learn" (now he is a vital part of the company he works for, making an enviable wage). They moved to the best district in Kansas and although Dyslexia was still unknown, at least SMSD tried! In light of the privacy laws I was concerned that the district would not give out this information. I figured there was a database for teachers who wanted to be found but can't track one. My husband still speaks of him from time to time.

Call or write the district offices and ask if you wrote a letter if they would be able to forward a letter.

You can also try googling the name if you remember it.

My it would be nice to think you were at one time a student of mine! But to answer your question, there is not a database of teachers. Have you asked the school district? Has the teacher retired? If you have the teacher's name, can't you just run a regular people search? Check public records in the area to see if the teacher is deceased. There are many options. I encourage you to keep trying. It would really be a delight for your teacher to hear from you.

I do not know how you would do it except to contact the school as a start. On the flip side, I applaud you for your actions in taking the time to try to find this teacher. You don't know how much that would mean to him/her to hear from an old student and know that they actually did make a difference in your life. We do not hear it enough, we have to believe it in our hearts or we would not continue teaching (you know, the pay is so high and all!) Good luck in your quest, and God Bless for taking the time to make a difference in someones day.
