I had a program for web building that had lots of info and I deleted it. Now I would like to have it back without paying to download it again. Is there a way to find it in the guts of my computer? It was on windows 98 SE. Thanks

If it was deleted then the only way I can think of is with data recovery software. You can find freeware of it on the internet.

The question I have for you is "How did you delete the program?" If you deleted it through the Add/Remove Programs list in the Control Panel (which is the proper way of deleting a program) then I am not sure whether you can get it back unless you try one of the suggestions from the other answerers. I am personally not familiar with Data Recovery programs although I have read from several sources that they do work well.

On the other hand if you only deleted a shortcut icon from your desktop, there is an EXCELLENT CHANCE. that the program is still on your computer. You can either look for it in the Add/Remove program list which is accessed in the control panel. You cannot, however, open it from there or You can click on the Start Button on the left side of your task bar and look in the Program list. If by good fortune, you find it listed in Programs, simply click it to open. I wish you luck. Please e-mail me if it's there.

Try to bring back your computer to a previous date state when the deleted files were still in the Recycle bin.
Go :
Accesories
System tools
System restore
Back up recent files after you deleted your Recycle bin, and then restore your systemn to a previous date. XP SP2 can sometimes do it.

there are certain programs such as "recover my files" or "stellar phoenix file recovery" that can be useful since you haven't rewritten data on your hard drive, if you have or you defraged your hard or it is a long time since that happend.. there is little chance yet not impossible ;)
