I broke it by jumping from one rock to another rock. I'm not getting any physical therapy from anyone so I was wondering what kind of PT I could do on my own. Thanks so much for the advice!!!

Physical therapists go to school for 7 years and take a national examination to become licensed PTs. What makes you think you can do physical therapy on your own?! Chances are, your range of motion in your leg from hip to ankle has decreased, muscles have tightened, joints have stiffened, muscles have atrophied and weakened, you have lost your sense of balance (proprioception), your gait is impaired, you cannot descend stairs or squat normally, nevertheless jog, run, or jump. You should go to see a real physical therapist, not get exercises online and do it yourself.

If the pain is too much to bear tell your Ortho. But keep in mind your leg has been imobilized for 2 months so it is going to be sore when you use it. Also you broke it pretty bad if you have hardware in it. Just give yourself time. Physical therapy will be a great help because it will get the muscles working again but it will also be painful. Grit your teeth and take pain meds before your session. You need to follow what the therapist says not only at your appointments but also do any homework she gives you. This will help keep the muscles stretched between sessions. If all goes well you should be walking pain free by Thanksgiving or Christmas. How in the world did you break your leg so bad???

Not a tib/fib, but I shattered my left ankle. I was terrified to walk on it (I had a plate and 13 screws) and even after 3 months I thought for sure it would crumble when I put weight on it. Do you have the very sharp tingling sensation? Like little knives in your leg? It will stop feeling like that after you walk on it a bit for a few days. I promise. That's from not walking on it for so long. You'll be surprised at how much better it feels a week from now. And don't be afraid--it's not going to break!

I'd listen to your Dr and ask him these questions. They can give you the best route to recovery. You don't want to do anything to risk making your leg worse. If they tell you to wear the boot then do so because it'll help. Trust me...your dr knows what they are talking about. I just recently broke my tib/fib as well and I didn't think the dr knew...but I asked him tons of questions last time I went and they are very useful resources. Good luck!

No way, I have the same metal rod in my leg from a broken leg i got in soccer. It ended up takiing me 6 months total from time of break to WALKING normal...i wasnt able to run for another few months after that. I was in a walking cast a few weeks without crutches before i was able to fully walk also. I dont remember any PT exercises besides walkiing...although your leg will be really weak after and will take awhile to get it at full strength.
